Bullet Journal Flower Theme-How to make a floral dutch door

Bullet Journal Flower Theme-How to make a floral dutch door

This month features a bullet journal flower theme inspired by a bouquet I got gifted.

Do you love getting creative with your bullet journal? Month after month, it's so exciting to think of a new spread, a new color palette, new doodles, and illustrations to experiment with our creativity.

Bullet journaling has been an excellent creative outlet to try something new, unique and explore your artistic creativity.

This bullet journal flower theme is all about trying dutch doors, scrapbook spreads, watercolor paintings, light pink and purple flowers - that was so enjoyable to make, and I hope it inspires you to give it a try.

What is a bullet journal dutch door?

A bullet journal dutch door is when you cut out a section of your page to create a creative door-like layout. It can be one or several pages, cutting your page to achieve a vertical or horizontal spread layout.

I watercolored the florals by using red paint mixed with a lot of water till I got a light pink color, adding a touch of blue to achieve a purple hue. You can achieve different tones of pink by mixing more/less water.

Instead of writing the monthly header at the top as I usually do, I opted to paint a tag and then letter the month June.

Bullet Journal Monthly Cover – The Most Exciting Epic Spread

June monthly overview

bullet journal june monthly overview

My monthly overview consists of a simple calendar—a section for goals and another for Notes. This spread is the start of my dutch-door theme. I painted each of the florals separately on watercolor paper, cut them out, and allocated one flower for every layout.

Because I'm creating a dutch door theme, I first decided to place each flower on every spread so that when you were looking at the monthly overview spread, you can see them all overlaying each other.

I then pasted the flowers in and began cutting around them to create my dutch door.

Here I realized that the left side of the dutch-door looked unfinished. So I traced the outer shape on some tracing paper and transferred it to my watercolor paper. Then I painted the same flower as the monthly overview on the other side, and I was much happier with the result.
I painted many leaves on the right-hand side, mixing different green tones and adding some detail after it dried with a thin pointed paintbrush.

For the next weekly spread, I traced the shape of my dutch-door and repainted the leaves.

The flower on the next page was the most difficult (in my opinion). First, I added layers of the petals, making sure they dry and adding more layers of soft strokes resembling tiny petals.

Painting this flower was hard enough the first time, so I was intimidated to try again. But, I thought to myself that you couldn't progress if you don't practice. And after the second attempt, I got it right (somewhat acceptable).

There was room for two weekly spreads, and on the right-hand side, I stuck in some Kraft paper and wrote a short quote to complete the spread. Luckily my last flower to paint was straightforward, and I only needed to paint it once.

I drew the flowers with my fine liner pens, and this time, the flowers are coming out of an envelope. I colored in the envelope with a neutral tone and decided to glam it up with some washi tape.
Next, I can number each element of the flowers till you get to 31.
Lastly, you want to decide what moods you want to track and what colors reference that particular mood.

By this spread, it was getting much easier drawing these flowers. I first decided how many habits I wanted to track, leaving room in the middle for the heading. Next, I drew a banner with the header and surrounded all the trackers with floral illustrations.
Lastly, I finished the spread by coloring them in with my Tombow dual brush pens.

Bujo Quote Page

bullet journal quote page

I always have to have at least one quote page during the month. I love scrapbooking, and quote pages are the perfect opportunity to scrapbook and play with different lettering fonts and compositions. Kraft paper is my best friend. However, I hold myself back from adding it to every spread. So instead, I printed all the elements on this page on some sticker paper from a collection I've purchased called the Botanical Moodboard Scene Creator.

This month was particularly special because my son graduated from high school. So I printed a few photos from a family gathering we had on some glossy sticker paper to celebrate.
I decorated the spread with the same Kraft paper and stickers, and this page is so sentimental I love it.

My last spread is a step-by-step guide on how I drew the florals in this theme. I try to do this for every Bujo theme I create to make it easier for anyone to recreate.
By the way, can you spot my mistake? I've added an extra 's' to the word 'floral.'
