Bullet Journal Monthly Headers - New ways to get creative

Looking for some monthly bullet journal monthly headers inspiration? This post covers a whole year of monthly header titles so be sure to stick around for a whole load of fun playing with hand lettering, doodles, and fun colors.

So back to monthly headers. I create a whole spread practicing lettering each month in unique ways. Doing this spread is a great way to get your creativity flow going. You play with colors and different fonts, sparking ideas on what to choose for your monthly theme.

I encourage you to try this spread; if you haven't, you may surprise yourself.

So let's get our pens out and see what we come up with and hopefully provide some inspiration!

February Bullet Journal Monthly Headers

February was the first time I tried this spread. So if there are months you skip, it's o.k.
Since high school, I hadn't practiced lettering, so I was desperate for inspiration. Pinterest is a life-saver when you need new ideas! Just give it a try when you feel like doing so!

I loved doing the top-right floral font, and I have a complete step-by-step tutorial and a printable if you're interested in giving it a try, head over here next.

Easy bullet journal font – You can make stunning floral headings

It hadn't been long since starting my Modern Calligraphy course, so I was so excited to try lettering. I can see how much I've progressed since then. Which is another reason I love bullet journaling.
It's not only a journal for your life, but it's a time capsule of your creative journey. So even if your spread doesn't look as good as you want it to, keep going!!!

So March was another month I forgot all about this spread till it was too late, but I made sure to give it another go in April :)

April Bullet journal monthly Headers

As you can tell, I was improving in my Modern Calligraphy because I spent most of the last two months practicing and working through my workbooks, and it paid off! It got so much easier.

Are you interested in learning Modern Calligraphy but not sure what course to choose? Would you mind reading my review?

Easy Modern Calligraphy Course- Everything You Need To Learn

Bullet Journal supplies for beginners

If you are just a beginner, by far the most straightforward pen you want to start with would have to be the Tombow Fudenosuke Brush pens.

I started adding doodles to my headers, and I had a blast! So much so that those little house doodles became my April theme!

Make sure to choose the no.10! Amazing Sakura White gelly roll pen. I find it's so much smoother.
A white gel pen is great for hiding some of your imperfections and adding dashes or highlights to dark fonts. So after adding your shadows, Add some highlights with these pens, and you won't regret it.

May Header Ideas

May was when I got comfortable trying new things. There are so many headers all over social media using modern or faux calligraphy, and I wanted to try something new. So I just thought of easy doodles and adding them to my fonts. I loved hanging different doodles from letters, and since drawing so many trees, I had to give a May bullet journal header made out of logs a try :D

The last bujo header added dots using different colors, creating circles and wavy lines in between. I think this bullet journal header was more therapeutic than anything else... hahaha!

June Header Titles

Finally, we get to June. Have to have one heading practicing my Modern Calligraphy.

The second June on the first page was bubbly and bold, adding a white gel marker to add more dimension. Then just drew random bubble brick-like shapes Making the lines thicker where the shadows should be. Then, the Bright yellow came to my mind, and I thought - why not?

I love aesthetic vintage fonts, so I placed the' J' in a frame with the last bullet journal monthly header. Drew some random doodles in each corner, creating a structure. I then added a thinner line inside every letter, and I love how it turned out.

Starting at the top of the page, a simple tag, a miniature frame doodle, and just lettered June in capital letters.

The second June header consists of a cartoony, bubbly, fun font. I just Wrote 'Hello' in a cute font to go with the heading, added a bubble for some extra detail, some shading... and DONE!

This next bullet journal monthly header is my favorite because I love drawing logs, vines, and simple bird doodles. A simple swirly font seemed fitting... and best of all, this heading makes me happy!

Last of all, Block Letters! I was playing around with this font, not what I usually go for, but I'm all in when it comes to trying something new! Not the best out there, but at least I tried!!! The double shadow gives more of a 3D block effect.

July Bullet journal Monthly Headers

Hand-letting the month of July and trying out fonts way out of my comfort zone like the Graffiti-inspired red heading.

The first purple heading is Modern Calligraphy, and my sister had done her May cover page hanging a small calendar from the 'Y.' I fell in love with and had to give it a go.

If you want to see her May set up, then read this next:

The second bright, bubbly font was an attempt at a balloon font, adding a double layer of my Tombow brush pens for some shadow and dimension and a white gel marker to add some highlights.

The third purple font is all over Pinterest, and you can create so many variations of this font. Start by lettering July in Block writing, then layer cursive writing in the middle - You can also write your cursive font at the bottom.

The trick is to write each cursive letter individually and then link them together. It'll make it way easier.

It is all about adding layers of shadow and color to the next page. So I chose my lighting source to come from the top right side. Then added my highlights, with a fine liner added an extra layer at the end of my highlight. Last of all went in with a white gel pen for some highlights.

The font below the red-graffiti July heading is so simple yet elegant. The yellow font against the light purple background is so pretty. Adding black around the letters, and the border ties everything together beautifully.

I love dangles, and there are so many ways of achieving this. I just drew a simple rod and the chain hanging each block letter using a gold gel pen (I think it's obvious how much I love my gel pens, lol).

August Bullet Journal monthly Header Titles

August header ideas are just full of dangles.

Quick Tip: If you are stuck and want to try a new font. I searched vintage fonts in my first heading and then found a font I had never tried before.

The stitched-inspired font below, I think, is my favorite. It's so easy to create and so much fun to letter.

The third font on the page is super simple. Letter your month in block letters and add little cute colored doodles of your choice. So easy yet so creative.

For some reason, I love drawing hanging clothes: two logs, some rope, and different clothing with a letter on each item.

Fantastic Tip: I figured this out by accident, and I've been applying it to all my spreads ever since. I draw my log and all the details using a brown gel pen that smudges (yep! smudges). Then I choose a light brush marker (light tan) and color in my log. The brown gel pen begins to smudge, adding highlights and texture to my log drawing using only one brush marker. Seriously need to give this Tip a try and thank me for it later.

Using this trick is great when you don't have a massive collection of markers. Yaay!

September bullet journal monthly headers

Postal stamps are so cute, so incorporate your heading in a simple doodle to make it stand out.

This pink September header is a great trick when you are stuck on creating something creative.
Try adding a few elements to any font, such as:

  • dashed lines
  • shading
  • Changing the baseline of each letter
  • Adding some swirls to each letter
  • Add some patterns like dots

Onto the diamond-shaped header. These are the simple steps:

  • Begin by drawing the shape you want to letter your word
  • Map out the guideline for even spacing of each letter
  • Letter your word following the shape you drew
  • Add some shading for more dimension (I used pencils for the shading)

I love looking for bullet journal font inspiration on Pinterest. I found this grungy droopy font, and I had to give it a try.

My last header was quite simple, and I just added some white gel pen to make it pop!

October Bullet journal monthly headers

Halloween vibes are the obvious inspiration for these headers. If you don't feel confident trying more difficult fonts, a great way is to incorporate doodles into your titles.

This way, you can use simple lettering styles to make the most creative headings, and they are so much to do.

November Bullet Journal Monthly headers

Fall or Autumn depending on where you live is my favorite season. This season is perfect for making the most aesthetically pleasing spreads of the year.
I chose a muted green color and different shades of brown.
Kraft paper and those tiny leaf doodles are the perfect final touches.

December Bullet journal monthly headers
