When making your headers, there are a couple of elements you need to consider:

  • The width of each uppercase letter is rounder.
  • Add small dashes at the end of each letter.
  • Look no further if you are looking for a cartoon-style font too cute to ignore. Add a round dot on the other end of the letter.

I love pairing this font with cartoon-style themes! Another tip would be to letter the alphabet using a thick marker, then outlining it with a black pen. By doing so, you will get a bubble letter effect.

cursive alphabet font

There are so many ways to write in cursive handwriting. Cursive writing needs practice and consistency. It would be best if you took your time while writing is vital. After taking a Modern Calligraphy course, I learned to look at letters as shapes. So when lettering, I use the same shapes slanted at the same angle and size. The more you practice, the more your hand muscles get used to repeating this motion in the same way for even spacing when lettering.

I always look at traditional and modern calligraphy flourishes and am amazed at how beautiful the lettering is. Although, I am sure they have had years of practice to get their lettering skills to that level. So this font is inspired by that, except it's way easier. Begin with writing the alphabet in a classic block alphabet font. Then using a small size fine liner, add simple flourishes and patterns.

Final tips to hand lettering any font in your bullet journal:

  • Always start with a lead pencil for drafting.
  • Take your time when lettering will help you focus on your spacing.
  • Don't be intimidated to try new font styles, and practice makes perfect!
  • Use dotted paper to help with staying consistent in your lettering.
  • You can always letter on a different paper and stick it in so you don't feel intimidated.
  • Practice, practice, practice!

We chose a dot grid paper for hand lettering in our bullet journal notebook because it makes lettering so much easier using the dots as a guide to get even-sized letters and spaces and for drawing flourishes.
